As the owner of a new startup orthodontic practice, I was extremely happy when I learned that this book was around. It is full of great ideas that I was able to immediately start using. Also, orthodontists are famous (more like infamous) for being highly territorial and competitive. In this regard, Dr. Gorczyca is like a breath of fresh air. She is, unfortunately, one of our few colleagues who genuinely cares about the well being of other dentists and specialists. She shares her "secret sauce" freely and openly, as she is secure enough in her own success to not engage in the silly chest puffing and dirty tactics of other orthodontists. Thank you, Dr. Gorczyca, for writing this excellent book.

This book is full of great tips and ideas that are not only quick and easy to implement, but they WORK! It’s a fantastic read with readily available resources! Her energy is noticeable in every page! It’s been amazing to see the results we’ve had. It’s a must read and must have for any practice who is ready to take it up a notch and think about growth with an emphasis on above and beyond service! I’m so glad it’s a part of my marketing tool kit!

Office Manager

I work a lot with new grads, fresh out of school and starting their first practice. There are a million decisions to be made in those initial months of building a successful practice, and I think getting the message out about the service they have to provide must be at the top of their list. This book is a must have and I will be recommending it often.

Great marketing doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, or be complicated. Dr. Gorczyca reminds us of the importance of building a real relationship with your community, focusing on a few things each month to excel at, and committing to excellence in the way you interact with your team and your patients. This book is packed with tips for improving your marketing and communication with your patients, responsible parties, staff, and community making this an excellent resource for new grads and established practices alike. ~ Lisa Schuelka, Systems Consultant @ Ortho2 Computer Systems

Basic Statistics for the Health Sciences 5th Edition PDF

Basic Statistics for the Health Sciences 5th Edition
Author: Jan Kuzma ID: 0072844035

Hardcover: 400 pagesPublisher: McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages; 5th edition (October 22, 2004)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0072844035ISBN-13: 978-0072844030 Product Dimensions: 7.4 x 0.8 x 9.4 inches Shipping Weight: 14.1 ounces Best Sellers Rank: #405,678 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #109 in Books > Textbooks > Medicine & Health Sciences > Research > Biostatistics #176 in Books > Medical Books > Basic Sciences > Biostatistics #902 in Books > Textbooks > Medicine & Health Sciences > Reference

Although three years have past since the third edition when this edition came out. there is very little difference in the fourth edition. There is a new second author but the first 7 chapters are virtually identical.
The biggest change appears to be the expansion of Chapter 8 from 6 sections to 16 with p-values introduced and explained in various contexts and type I and type II errors introduced one chapter earlier. The introduction of hypothesis testing along with estimation occurs in Chapter 8. This may be helpful to instructors if they tend to strictly follow the order in the text. Chapter 9 is somewhat shorter. These two chapters are now organized by one and two sample problems rather than by estimation and testing. It is not clear to me that this is a better way to organize and introduce the material.

In the end, the text is only 15 pages longer than the third edition and there are no new chapters. There seem to be fewer exercises overall.

Although there are noticeable differences in Chapters 8 an 9, there is very little difference in the other chapters. Most of the exercises are the same (with a few deleted from the new edition).

The authors claim to put more emphasis on the use of computers to solve problems. But this is not easily discernable. I only noticed some brief mention of SPSS version 9 in the ANOVA chapter.

The book I wrote with Robert Friis was intended for the same audience of students and includes a larger assortment of techniques including an introduction to bootstrap methods.

As a statistics tutor, I have had to spend countless hours explaining to students the content of this book due to its lack of ability to make concepts clear. This book assumes that the reader has a background in statistics and does not need detailed explanations. I have had to use my personal statistics book (Elementary Statistics by Mario F. Triola) to properly teach the students statistics. This book is frustrating to say the least.

The book is well organized from start to finish, and builds well on the topics as they are presented. Unfortunately, it often makes assumptions about the reader’s knowledge of the topic, usually around formula usage that is confusing and difficult.
As a primer for statistics, this one falls a little short.

It’s no Klein Organic Chemistry text but it does the job for a one semester course. Minute mistakes and lack of clarification here and there but lots of diagrams and illustrations to elucidate content. Be aware that my entire class had issues with the Mastering Chemistry code, requiring sorting out through customer service but did get eventual access to the online content. It may be worth it to buy used (sans code) and buy the code separately direct from Pearson’s website if your professor requires it.

The book was brand new and arrived quickly with additional resources as promised.

Great! Had both the hard cover book and mastering biochem
